NBC.com is reporting that a noose was found hanging outside the office of a black professor at Columbia University's Teachers College on Tuesday.
A black female professor found the hangman's noose dangling from her door.
Janice Robinson, the Teachers College executive director, stated that "The TC community and I deplore this hateful act, which violates every Teachers College and societal norm."
The NYPD's Hate Crimes unit is investigating the incident.
Teachers College is a prestigious school that was rated the No. 1 Graduate School of Education by U.S. News & World Report.

Yeah, the copycat noose stories are getting tired(one every week since Jena event)...almost non-threatening. Before in the 60s it really meant something, now it just seems like people are trying to do it for pranks and attention.d
I too am getting really tired of these copycat noose stories. These punk azz individuals need to sit their azzes down and grow the f%$@ up. Since many of these incidents have occurred in academic settings, I hope school officials will expell them as soon as their identities are known. Perhaps we can avoid another Jena 6.
I don't know...I kinda see it as copycat behavior, but I'm still a little worried. On one hand, there could just be some idiots are there playing jokes, but on the other hand, I wonder if the people hanging the nooses (more than likely non-Blacks) don't realize the hate nooses symbolize. I've gotten the feeling since the Jena incident that Whites don't think hanging nooses are a big deal, that we shouldn't get mad about it.
I think they're cowards too: of course they're not going to do anything with the noose, OR CATCH A BEATDOWN! LOL
Call me naive, but I didn't think there were too many people still alive that even knew how to tie nooses anymore. That goes to show you that this behavior and cycle of hate is being passed down through the generations.
Thats scary, we are clearly not progressing in some parts of the planet.
I'll be so glad when they stop making stupid people. LoL!
I just saw the professor on GMA and of course the sister-Madonna Constantine-is bad! She said while the incident shook her she is going to hold her head high and fight. She continued on by saying we live in a multi-cultural society and thus need to do the work of truly understanding various viewpoints.
These are the people that I add to my inspiration list [with my kin and others]! Without people like Prof. Constantine I would not be on my way to fulfilling my goal of being a professor.
Small sidebar-Braids were what she had-a decade or so ago if you were a professor or corporate sister braids were a no no. Things change little by little. ;-)
