According to the Associated Press, Mychal Bell, one of the Jena 6 teens, could enter the plea as early Monday, said attorney Carol Powell Lexing. He has been charged with aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy. The plea deal would allow Bell to plead guilty to a misdemeanor and avoid a second trial.
"We were prepared to go forward with the trial, but you have to do what's best for the client," Lexing said.
Sidebar: I hope that we (both blacks and whites) learn something from the Jena 6 case. We must all work together to eradicate racism from the judicial system and within law enforcement.
More importantly, I hope that Mychal Bell will decide to stay on the right path and refuse to go back to prision under any circumstances.
