According to the Electronic Villager, rumors are circulating around the Internet that Mommy Parlin may actually be Grandmom Parlin.
The following are several articles and posts regarding the Parlin's pregnancy scandal:
"The governor, a runner who's always been trim, simply doesn't look pregnant. "(Source)
"Palin never got big with this pregnancy." (Source)
Who's Your Mama, Trig Paxson Van Palin? (Source)
I am going to allow you to be the judge on this one.
************************************UPDATE******************************************
According to johnmccain.com, Sarah and Todd issued the following statement regarding their 17 year old daughter's pregnancy:
"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates." (Source)

That's all I have to say...
Luke 12:2
I can't imagine anyone in the mainstream media (MSM) or the Obama Camp wanting to touch this.
A simple DNA would either prove (1) the rumors specious, in that case, destroying the credibility of any of those who fed them, OR, (2) it would make her an even more sympathetic character, for being maligned for merely protecting her daughter and taking responsibility for an unwanted child.
I can't see where that meme does anything to harm her with the family values folks and would, in fact, very possibly make her look like yet another Conservative wrongly villified by the MSM.
Remember Dan Quayle with the "potatoe" spelling?
When it turned out that the mis-spelling was on the teacher's card and that Quayle simply didn't throw the teacher under the bus....in fact, he didn't even bring it up during the media firestorm (the teacher did), it wound up making the MSM look blatantly biased.
The GOOD in the Palin pick for Liberals is that it takes the "experience" issue off the table.
Sadly, as history shows, American Liberals can't even take a gift wisely.
First they harped on her lack of experience, insanely highlighting their candidates most glaring weakness and now they're poised to either destroy any credibility they may still have (if a DNA test would prove that child hers) OR make her a martyr of the MSM.
Do you see how this makes Liberals look? When Eliot Spitzer's caught doing hookers, it's no big deal to Liberals, but here (if the rumors are in fact true), when a woman covers for her daughter and takes that child to raise it as her own, THAT'S a problem???
There's really no good outcoem in all of this.
@missrook, as we say in church, "WWWEEELLLL!"
@jmk, if this story is true, you do not see anything wrong with Gov. Palin lying to the public about her pregnancy??? Isn't this a question of character??? Character should be just as, if not more, important than experience. How can you trust anyone who would take such drastic measures to cover up her daughter's pregnancy to protect her own public image???
Let’s just say that the baby is in fact hers and not her daughter’s. In her own words, she stated that when her water broke while in Texas at a political function, she decide to remain to give a speech and then fly back home to Alaska after a layover in Seattle as oppose to going to nearby hospital. Do you call that good judgment??? Was she trying to have a miscarriage??? Miscarriage would be more acceptable than aborting her baby with down syndrome.
I cannot put my finger on it, but there is something about Gov. Palin that seems a little off balance.
I don't know much about Palin, AM.
My first impression is that it was an incredibly cynical choice, but I understand he was seriously considering Liberman (a social and economic Liberal on everything except Iraq).
The Lieberman pick would've alienated the Conservative base and all polls show that America is a Center-Right nation, with self-proclaimed Conservatives outnumbering self-proclaimed Liberals by better than 2 to 1.
I like the fact that McCain has, in effect, capitulated to the Conservative base. That's important to me, otherwise I'd have had to consider the possibility that McCain was trying to throw the election.
I've already said that many investors I know are convinved that we're in for some tough economic times globally and there's not much anyone can do about it, so the GOP "tanking this one" isn't beyond the scope of possibility.
As I've said, I don't wish the Liberal-wing of the Democratic Party any good (and I'm a registered Democrat...a "Zell Miller Democrat") at all and part of me wouldn't mind seeing a Liberal Democrat (like say Barack Obama) caught in the coming economic tsunami and exacebating with Keynesian policies.
It would be ironic that a Liberal administration would fall to something akin to an economic Katrina.
Nothing could've stopped Katrina (a Cat-4 hurricane) from breaching those levies and flooding most of the below-sea level areas of new Orleans. The response wasn't slow, it was actually blocked (first by civil unrest that kept the early aid from reaching those evacuees who needed it, and secondly by Governor Blanco, who wouldn't put the La National Guard under federal control). There was nothing that could've been done to prevent or lessen the devastation and there was no hope at all, for those who refused to evacuate. The city and state was responsible for the initial evacuation plans.
Still, the Bush administration took the heat....and rightly so. It really doesn't matter that the devastation could not have been prevented, the blame goes to the top.
Same thing with the coming economic turbulence - people aren't going to care about an Obama or a McCain administration "doing the best they can," or even "doing everything right."
If the results are bad (and history isn't on the side of the Keynesian policies Barack Obama's advanced under the best of circumstances) the blame will go (rightly or wrongly) to the top.
I've said for a long time, I'm torn here because (1) I don't think a McCain administration could do much to forestall the inevitable and (2) a bad economy, like the one we had under Jimmy Carter, under John McCain would only result in him (and by extension, Conservatism) sharing the blame.
As far as this "Who's Trig's real Mom," controversy, I don't see ANY good at all in that for the Democrats.
If a DNA test shows Sarah Palin to be the Mom anyone who endorsed that story has their credibility reduced to that of the Kos Kids, which is to say, none.
On the other hand, a mother who would protect a daughter by claiming an unwanted, unplanned child as her own and raising it, is more of a "white lie" than Bill Clinton lying to protect his wife, by not acknowledging an illicit affair in front of the American people.
I didn't like the Clinton impeachment over an affair and his "lying before Congress" to protect his wife from further embarrassment. Anyone would've done that.....the lying, not the sex in the oval office, although many fifty-something CEOs have been known to take some liberties with starry-eyed nineteen year old secretaries, interns, etc. It's still abhorent behavior, but the affair was not an impeachable offense and the "lying before Congress" was, in my view, understandable.
Worst case for Sarah Palin, I can't see any harm coming her way from this. Conservatives will just see this as a meanspirited Liberal MSM assailing an honorable woman who moved to protect her duty, by claiming a child that daughter couldn't raise.
If anything this could make her look like a martyr and there's no way the Obama camp wants that.
One of the first things I heard after she was nominated, was "Joe Biden better be careful how he deals with her. If he comes off at all bullying, he's going to do that ticket real harm."
Amazingly enough, it's been the Liberal supporters who've FIRST assailed her "lack of experience" that just served to highlight Barack Obama's glaring lack of same and SECOND some seem poised to martyr a woman for taking responsibility for a child....like I said, an even better reason than Bill Clinton's.
The GIFT in the Sarah Palin nomination was that it took "experience" off the table for both sides.
I can't see this helping the Democrats at all, AM. Apparently you do.
TYPO: "I can't see any harm coming her way from this. Conservatives will just see this as a meanspirited Liberal MSM assailing an honorable woman who moved to protect her (duty) SHOULD BE daughter, by claiming a child that daughter couldn't raise."
When it turned out that the mis-spelling was on the teacher's card and that Quayle simply didn't throw the teacher under the bus....in fact, he didn't even bring it up during the media firestorm (the teacher did), it wound up making the MSM look blatantly biased.
Somebody probably told him teacher's card or not you should know how to spell potato.
This story about the daughter and the baby is getting too much play by Obama-leaning and Democratic networks.
Let the National Enquirer handle it. John Edwards can vouch for the tenacity and investigative skills.
As far as Joe Biden, all he has to do is what he does. He's been in the spotlight long enough that people will see, should be verbally bust her in her mouth, that thats the way he is be it a male or female opponent.
He simply needs to express his knowledge, answer the question and almost view her as not part of the conversation. No need to attack her. Challenge her? Yes. But attacking is not necessary.
I don't know her foreign policy experience/knowledge but if its lacking Biden simply needs to let her hang herself. He can't be afraid to challenge her.
Actually verbal gaffes (not mere mispronunciations called "Bushisms") are very common.
In fact, when checked there are far more among Liberal and Democratic politicians (I'd like to believe far fewer among Conservative Democrats, as I'm one) including the likes of AlGore and Barack Obama.
The attacks on Dan Quayle were, in fact, proof of a blatant media bias and things like that tend to move independents and moderates over to the Republican camp.
I find it torturous that as a lifelong Democrat, and I have family members ho've run and won on local levels (State and City races), that I've NEVER been able to vote for a Democrat for national office. To me, that is a shame.
I refuse to support ANY Liberal. Even here in NYC, I HAD to vote for Rudy Giuliani and his initial appointment of Bill Bratton completely vindicated that position. Bratton's plan crushed random, violent crime within NYC, by instituting mandatory minimum sentences, a three strikes rule and going after quality-of-life crimes (panhandling, public urination, etc) to run those folks for "wants and warrants." Turns out that over 2/3s of those mutts had outstanding warrants for other, more serious offenses. Bill Bratton was/IS a genius in the realm of criminal justice and the best thing Giuliani did for New York! Bratton's famous quote, when asked, after arrest sweeps were done on New York's panhandling "squeegee men," "How are those men going to make a living now," he replied "I say, get off the booze, get off the drugs and get a job," said it all.
Politically, my own tastes run to Zell Miller and Pat Buchanan, and there are a lot of Southern and Western (I live in NYC, but have family in the Wyoming/Montana region) Democrats who want their Party back.
With only 43% of Democrats currently identifying themselves as "Liberal," that goal is very much within reach.
The bottom-line on the Trig story is that there is no good outcome for opponents of Palin on that one.
If DNA tests prove the child is hers and I've seen articles and pictures that show her "showing" at 7 months (http://rightwingnews.com/mt331/2008/08/the_daily_kos_smear_machine_sa.php) that will eradicate the credibility of anyone associated with that story and make her look like "the woman who tamed the Left-leaning media." That would make a heroine of Sarah Palin. If it were to prove out that the child was her daughter's, that again, only makes her look good - protecting a teen daughter and taking responsibility for raising that unplanned for child. That would serve to make her appear more of a martyr of the MSM.
There's absolutely no good that can come out of this story and that's why it's inexplicable why so many Left-wing people are going with it.
There's nothing here untoward, as there was with Bill Clinton's adultery or Eliot Spitzer's hooker escapades.
I don't know, maybe Right-wingers just know who to smear people better?
A verbal gaffe of my own: "I don't know, maybe Right-wingers just know (who) HOW to smear people better?
I have given the update to this story. I am done with it. I want this election to be over ASAP.
I agree with Symphony that Biden should not be afraid to challenge Palin on her policy positions especially because she is a woman. I know that McCain's camp is hoping that any challenge by Biden will be construed more as an attack than a challenge. We shall see. The debates will be interesting. I may even watch a few of them. : - )
LOL!! What's done in the dark...
I too want this campaign to be over
Biden HAS to challenge Palin, but his track record is that he's prone to fits of anger and he says some of the dumbest things around, like the "You can't go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have at least a slight Indian accent."
Biden's prone to be a dick and that's why many Democrats hope he's careful when he opens his mouth between now and November.
I'm afraid that no matter who gets in their will be a LOT of contentiousness on BOTH sides.
If McCain gets in I expect him to be able to do little to stop the transgressions of an inept Liberal-Democrat led Congress and I'd fully expect calls for his impeachment.
If Obama gets in, I expect an even quicker skid down the Keynesian slope, as Obama supports many of the economic policies that resulted in Jimmy Carter's stagflation in the late 70s and early 80s...and yes, I expect groups like Howard Kurtz's group and others to continue to try and dig up stuff in Obama and look to derail his administration.
In either case I really think things get worse after the election!
But then again, I haven't been optimistic about all this from the start.
JMK writes, "Biden HAS to challenge Palin, but his track record is that he's prone to fits of anger.."
I heard McCain also has a terrible temper. I don't want a former POW with a bad temper having access to the "Red Button", if you know what I mean. : -)
I ,too had a hand in perpetuating this incendiary rumor that stirred the Republican Presidental and Vice Presidential nominee to come forward with the news of young Palin's pregnancy. Although, I clearly stated in my post that it was a rumor...I fell for it hook, line and sinker. With discussions concerning the matter seemingly providing a means for further bad press for Senator Obama who has made it abundantly clear that he nor any member of his campaign committee had anything to do with it ....one's family is OFF limits he said today. Therefore I will refrain from any further mention of any candidate's children or family members - sticking only to the issues which is were it should have always been.
"I heard McCain also has a terrible temper. I don't want a former POW with a bad temper having access to the "Red Button", if you know what I mean. : -) (AM)
I'm merely stating a fact, AM. Joe Biden's had a loong history of putting his foot in his mouth. Not so McCain.
McCain displayed his temper when the Bush team smeared HIM with the rumor that Cindy had fathered an out-of-wedlock black baby (the child they adopted from Bangladesh) back in 2000...and although I DIDN'T support McCain in that race, I found THAT tact to be slimey and disgusting on the Bush team's part.
Biden's a loose cannon.
He handled himself nicely today with Rove (who called him a dufus), Biden sarcastically responded, "He's a great American."
That's self-control. I've seen very little of that from Biden over the years.
"I ,too had a hand in perpetuating this incendiary rumor that stirred the Republican Presidental and Vice Presidential nominee to come forward with the news of young Palin's pregnancy. Although, I clearly stated in my post that it was a rumor... (Blog Queen)
I'm not looking to blame anyone for "perpetuating" or "going along" with these rumors Blog Queen.
The full blame, in my view, belongs to the Kos Kids.
If you don't realize that the Kos Kids and the Soros brigades are the worst of liabilities for the Obama camp, then all you need do is to refresh yourself over the Joe Lieberman-Ned Lamont race in Connecticut a couple of years ago.
Lamont surged to an overwhelming Democratic Primary victory over Lieberman on a "wave of internet fueled rage," purportedly by the Kos Kids, MoveOn, etc.
Then Lamont lost badly in the general election (even in very BLUE Connecticut) to Lieberman who ran as an Independent. The Obama team certainly knows that lesson.
Personally, I wouldn't want to see a mistake made by one of the Obama girls (a few years hence) made into election fodder and I doubt you would either.
This kind of sliming almost always results in a scorched earth policy on both sides and that's disgusting and it cheapens the electoral process.
Do we want an Obama or a McCain slimed so badly that they cannot govern effectively after taking office?
Apparently some folks seem to feel fine about that, so long as it's their side doing the sliming.
Believe me, this is bad news and it's almost certainly going to escalate.
There are indeed Conservative 527s and other groups as slimey as the Kos Kids and it'll be interesting to see IF one of those groups severely slimes Obama and McCain calls those attacks "out-of-bounds," how many Liberals and other assorted Democrats take McCain at his word, as the Right (O'Reilly among many others) have taken Obama at his.
HOLA! AM!
TO JMK: I fail to see how Palin covering for her daughter makes her heroic. I don't have children, but if I were a mother I think it would be in the best interest of my child to take responsibility for their actions, and not have mommy run and clean up the mess before it makes the headlines. What would Palin covering up for her daughter really do for her other than allow her to continue living a wreckless life where she isn't held accountable for her behavior?! I know there are grandmothers who take the child and raise them because the parent may not be a fit parent, but to totally deny the child's real mother is unthinkable, and more along the lines of a plot for "All My Children".
Furthermore, this "act of heroism" would have been purely motivated by her own selfishness. Just as any politician wants to save face (much more a conservative), Palin would not want this incident to tarnish her image - a pregnant teenager, unwed and to whom she preaches abstinence. There is no part of me that would believe she preferred to protect her daughter over her own image.
Having said that, I don't necessarily believe she covered for her daughter. It was shady though how no one knew she was pregnant up until her 7th month...AND continuing her affairs even after her water broke?! Uh, I'm no doctor but that has to be pretty detrimental to the baby's health - not to mention just outright gross...!!! So, something in the water ain't...oh sorry...isn't clean! lol
